New talk ....

BYRON'S PILGRIMAGE - His life and travels

A journey across Europe and the Mediterranean following in the footsteps of one of our most celebrated poets, whose travels clearly were the inspiration behind many of his writings.  His appetite for new places was never satisfied, and  turning his back on mounting scandals and considerable debts, he decided at the age of 21 to embark on a 'Grand Tour'.  Sailing from Falmouth to Lisbon, the talk traces Byron's journey from Portugal and Spain to Albania and Greece.  It then follows his later travels to Switzerland and the beautiful cities of Italy, interweaving his 'pilgrimage' with that of Childe Harold, the subject of the poem which made Byron famous, and who sets out on a similar journey to seek meaning, purpose and fulfilment.
